Beginnings ~ Elements of Design
Children's art begins with lines; first scribbles, then lines that form figures and objects. With a little encouragement and inspiration we learn to look at the world in new ways. In this “Beginnings” collection of videos I explore some of the basic elements of design including line, shape, color and texture.
These videos are designed for 3-7 year old children but would be fun to do along with a parent or older sibling. A child can go as fast or slow as desired through the lessons depending on their interest and stage of development. It’s easy to pause the video at any time. A younger child could also participate with a little more assistance from an adult or older sibling. It’s a great mom/dad and child activity!
Before beginning… be sure to have a space for your child to work and some basic art supplies available ; crayons, colored pencils, watercolors, tempera paint (the pan style is best), mixed media paper either in a sketchbook or loose sheets.

Beginnings ~ Lines Can Tell a Story
Children's art begins with lines; first scribbles, then lines that form figures and objects. With a little encouragement and inspiration we learn to look at the world in new ways. We'll explore using pencils, crayons and markers in new ways, creating different kinds of lines. God's design will be our inspiration through a variety of prompts such as natural objects, Bible stories, songs and poems.

Beginnings ~ Color Makes Me Smile
A colorful rainbow from God, seeing color in nature, basic color mixing and how artists use color to express themselves are all part of this fun colorful adventure! We'll use crayons and watercolor crayons to learn the color mixing basics.

Beginnings ~ Shape Stories
Children's art begins with lines; first scribbles, then lines that form figures and objects, then join together to make shapes. Shape Stories is all about seeing, imagining and creating shapes. With a little encouragement and inspiration we learn to look at the world in new ways.

Beginnings ~ Texture Treasures
Making marks to create texture with colored pencils, crayons, watercolor, tempera and other materials we explore and discover new techniques. A texture treasure hunt reveals God's beautiful design in nature all around us as we learn more about seeing with our artist's eyes and expressing ourselves.
